PLAYSTATION 5
PS5 Input Lag Guide
The PS5 is fast, but your TV might not be. Learn how to eliminate hidden latency and get a true competitive edge.
Typical PS5 Input Lag Ranges
Optimal Setup
Gaming Monitor, Wired Controller, 120Hz
15-25ms
Default TV Setup
Mid-range TV, Game Mode ON
30-50ms
Unoptimized
Old TV, Game Mode OFF, Wireless
70-120ms+
Why Does PS5 Have Input Lag?
Your TV is the #1 Culprit
Most TVs process the image (upscaling, smoothing, HDR tone mapping) before displaying it. This can add 30-100ms of delay. Game Mode disables this.
Bluetooth Controller Delay
The DualSense uses Bluetooth, which adds ~4-8ms latency. Connecting via USB cable eliminates this entirely.
Optimization Checklist
Enable TV Game Mode
Reduces TV processing delay by 20-50ms
Use Wired Controller
Eliminates ~4ms Bluetooth latency
120Hz Mode (if supported)
Halves frame time from 16ms to 8ms
Disable HDR (competitive)
Some TVs add processing for HDR
Can You Test PS5 Latency in a Browser?
No — browser tests measure your PC/phone, not your console. However, you can:
- Test your TV's input lag using our Display Test (connect PC to TV).
- Benchmark your reaction time baseline on any device.
